Kids Color their "Favorite Places" in 3D

IBM Launches New Crayola Magic 3D Coloring Book Favorite Places

Mountain View, CA - 20 Jul 1999: . . . IBM (R) today announced the availability of Crayola (R) Magic 3D Coloring Book (TM) Favorite Places CD-ROM software -- for children ages three to seven -- designed to inspire children's imagination and creative self-expression.

IBM's CrayolaMagic 3D Coloring Book Favorite Places enables children to select from over 100 coloring pages that include color-by-number and connect-the-dot images. As children color, the images are shadowed realistically, emerging as lifelike, three-dimensional works of art.

IBM's Crayola Magic 3D Coloring Book Favorite Places features five different coloring book categories based on the popular themes for kids-- Around Town, Circus, Fantasy, Space and Vehicles. The coloring book features Crayola's 64 classic colors (which can transform to "glitter" crayons with the click of a button), 20 textures (from zebra skin to daisy patterns) and five wacky tools, including a "paint hose" which lets children effortlessly color fantastic images in 3D over and over again, with dozens of pre-rendered patterns and reward animations.

Crayola Magic 3D Coloring Book Favorite Places was developed in collaboration with Binney & Smith, the number one producer of children's art supplies. According to Binney and Smith's research, children ages three to eight spend an average of 28 minutes coloring each day.

"Our goal is to create products that children enjoy and parents trust," said Diana James-Cairns, Vice President of Marketing for IBM's Consumer Software Division and General Manager for IBM's Multimedia Studio. "We are developing products that support existing play patterns, enrich the play experience, and help further develop children's visual skills and creativity while building the fundamentals of interacting with a computer."
