Sept - 29 Sep 1999: San Jose, Calif. . . . IBM today announced the completion of the acquisition of Mylex Corporation (NASDAQ:MYLX), a leading developer of technology for moving, storing, protecting and managing data in desktop and networked environments. Mylex, based in Fremont, Calif., is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of IBM.
Through this acquisition, IBM will strengthen its efforts to deliver more integrated solutions to original equipment manufacturer (OEM) storage customers. Mylex designs and manufactures cost-effective and high-performance RAID controllers for storage products. RAID, or redundant arrays of independent disks, can provide higher performance and enhanced data security by effectively grouping several disks into a single system.
"This strategic move will significantly strengthen IBM's NT and UNIX attached storage offerings as well as our storage area network (SAN) and network attached storage (NAS) portfolio of solutions," according to Ron Kilpatrick, general manager, IBM Storage Systems Division.
As the largest supplier of storage in the world and the holder of more U.S. data storage patents than any other company, IBM offers the most comprehensive portfolio of storage solutions available. IBM Storage Systems Division offers a full suite of disk and tape subsystems, storage management software, hard disk drive technology, systems integration and support services.
Mylex Corporation is a leading, ISO 9001-certified developer of high-performance RAID hardware and software. Mylex produces a broad product line, spanning applications from PC workstations and entry-level servers to enterprise-class systems. Mylex has sales offices in Europe, Asia and the U.S. and research and development facilities in Fremont, Calif., and Boulder, Colo.
Mylex products will continue to be sold to distributors, value-added resellers (VARs) and system integrators for the UNIX and Windows NT platforms, as well as OEM customers worldwide.
