IBM and Dassault Systemes Expand their Strategic Partnership to Address e-Business Opportunities and Deploy Digital Enterprise Solutions

SURESNES, France/ORLANDO, Fla. - 05 Oct 1999: -- Dassault Systemes (NASDAQ: DASTY - news) and IBM today announced they have signed an agreement to strengthen and expand their strategic partnership to reach and serve the needs of manufacturers, around worldwide service, consulting, marketing activities and dedicated sales channel. The announcement came at the CATIA Operators Exchange (COE), the American users' group meeting attended by nearly 2000 CATIA customers and users.

Dassault Systemes and IBM have worked together over the past 18 years to develop and market worldwide the CATIA and ENOVIA software product lines. Today, these are the world's leading CAD/CAM/CAE/PDM II solutions.

IBM and Dassault Systemes are expanding their e-business solutions to support the deployment of the digital enterprise in medium, large accounts and to address the e-business needs of and new opportunities presented by the fast growing Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) market. A manufacturing digital enterprise is able to conceive, design, build, sell and service the most innovative, highest quality and most attractive products to existing and new customers much faster than ever before.

To reach these objectives, a dedicated worldwide sales organization, and a worldwide consulting and service group will help large companies create their digital enterprise and expand their e-business opportunities. In addition, Dassault Systemes and IBM have decided to work jointly on brand and market development initiatives. This includes expanding a highly skilled business partners network to offer CATIA and ENOVIA solutions tailored to the specific needs of Small and Medium Enterprises.

The new agreement means that all manufacturers, regardless of their size, can gain a competitive market advantage through the industry-proven digital enterprise solutions, consulting and services that can be custom-designed to meet their current and future needs.

"The small and medium customer segment is the fastest growing in the world because these companies can quickly take advantage of tremendous e-business opportunities. Yet the competitive challenges are greater than ever before,'' said Pat Toole Jr., IBM general manager, product design management. "IBM and Dassault Systemes are expanding and strengthening an 18-year marketing and sales partnership to help the small and medium customers take advantage of those opportunities, overcome the challenges and grow. Today's announcement means the winning combination of Dassault's CATIA and ENOVIA Solutions and IBM's consulting, services and other e-business implementation skills just got stronger.''

"We believe that our digital enterprise portfolio provides highly innovative solutions to bring competitive advantage to all size companies from any sector in the industry. This agreement with IBM is a new milestone in our strategic partnership to uniquely deliver solutions that will help our customers embrace the digital economy revolution,'' said Bernard Charles, President of Dassault Systemes.
