IBM Extends Leading e-Business Certification Program to Business Partner Firms

SAN DIEGO, Ca - 24 Jan 2000: (PartnerWorld 2000) -- Enhancing its ability to deliver customers e-business solutions, IBM today announced e-business Certification for Business Partners. This certification complements IBM's previously announced e-business Certifications for IT professionals and provides Business Partner firms focused on IBM e-business a quantitative way to differentiate their capabilities in the market.

Business Partner firms can now become e-business certified, through an expanded curriculum and innovative distance learning technology, and earn the rights to display IBM's new, exclusive e-business emblem. These enhancements are part of IBM's industry-leading Business Partner program, PartnerWorld. PartnerWorld is a marketing and enablement program designed to create new revenue opportunities for IBM Business Partners by providing them unique opportunities to leverage the full portfolio of IBM products, services and technologies as they pursue e-business.

Business Partner firms certified for e-business will be recognized by IBM for their investment in developing in-depth e-business expertise and skills that enhance their competitive advantage. In addition, they will receive unique business benefits such as greater visibility through IBM's marketing campaigns and the ability to team with other Business Partners with complementary e-business skills through IBM's Business Partner Connection initiative.

"IBM's Certified for e-business Initiative was launched last year to provide Business Partners, developers and customers with the know-how to design and implement e-business solutions," said Buell Duncan, general manager, IBM Global Business Partners. "IBM e-business certification for Business Partner firms will create a network of skilled Business Partner Firms that our customers can turn to confidently for e-business expertise. It also clearly distinguishes IBM's Business Partners with leading-edge technologies and skills, easily identified by IBM's distinctive e-business emblem."

In order for Business Partner firms to earn IBM's e-business emblem and become e-business certified, they need to:

- enroll in IBM's PartnerWorld.
- have at least two IBM Certified for e-business Solution Advisors and one Certified for e-business Solution Designer on staff.
- have in-depth e-business technology certifications and specialization skills on staff.
- use IBM e-business technology products within their current business.
- be able to demonstrate a proven customer track record with documented customer references.
- undergo an annual requalification process to maintain IBM Certified for e-business Business Partner status and the right to use the e-business certification mark.

"The IBM Certifications for e-business are based on IBM's Application Framework for e-business," said Peter Tarrant, vice president, IBM e-business marketing. "That means we can offer open, standards-based methodologies to teach Business Partners, developers and customers how to build, run and manage cross platform e-business applications, and we can clearly identify those who have mastered these capabilities."

In support of the new certification offering, IBM is now providing Business Partners with innovative distance learning through IBM's Learning Services Network (ILSN). IBM's e-business certification classes are now available worldwide, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week via satellite and the web. The new e-business emblem will be made available to Business Partners based on geography during the first quarter.
