IBM and S1 Corporation Form Global Strategic Alliance to Deliver e-business Banking Solutions

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y - 27 Apr 2000: -- S1 Corporation (NASDAQ: SONE) and IBM today announced a global strategic alliance to deliver comprehensive e-business solutions to assist financial institutions in offering Internet-based corporate banking. Currently used by some of the world's largest and most innovative financial institutions, the S1 Corporate Suite on the IBM platform enables banks to offer their corporate clients a wide range of online cash and asset management services, thereby increasing cost efficiencies and improving customer service.

Under the terms of the agreement, the two companies will jointly market and sell the S1 Corporate Suite, and IBM will expand its financial services e-business practice to include S1 specialists focused on providing consulting, customization and integration services. S1 will strengthen its commitment to IBM's Application Framework for e-business and continue to incorporate IBM's middleware and operating systems, which are part of the Framework, into its Corporate Suite.

"As a long-standing user of both S1 and IBM's solutions, we are pleased to see these two powerhouses become more closely aligned," said Mark Quinlan, senior vice president, Firstar Corporation (NYSE: FSR). "Using the S1 Corporate Suite on the IBM platform with IBM middleware allows us to offer our corporate banking customers a better way to manage information reporting, global payments and other financial services over the Internet, thereby enhancing our competitive advantage."

According to Michael Cannon-Brookes, general manager of the IBM Global Banking Industry, "Business clients are increasingly looking to the Web as a way to do their banking to improve operational and cost efficiency, and corporate bankers are looking to innovative Web technologies to address that need. S1's commercial banking applications combined with IBM's RS/6000(R) servers and MQSeries(R) messaging software, as well as our consulting, customization and implementation services, provide an end-to-end corporate banking solution."

According to James S. Mahan III, CEO of S1 Corporation, "We are pleased to be able to leverage IBM's rich heritage in the financial services market as we extend the reach of our corporate banking applications. This alliance also provides S1 with the added bench strength to deploy our solutions more rapidly in this fast-moving marketplace. By continuing to align ourselves with many of the world's leading software and services companies, we are positioning ourselves and our customers at the forefront of the online financial services industry. Today's announcement with IBM is the start of a very significant relationship that could expand both of our market opportunities beyond corporate Internet banking."

This alliance, arranged through IBM's PartnerWorld for Developers program, is another example of the strategic alliances that IBM is creating with leading independent software vendors (ISVs), based on a developer alliance initiative announced in November 1999. IBM is committed to providing its financial services customers with comprehensive, innovative and integrated solutions, and works with business partners for best-of-breed offerings. IBM's goal is to team up with a select number of leading financial services ISVs to help banks, financial markets institutions and insurance companies address their business challenges and transform themselves into e-businesses. Under the PartnerWorld for Developers initiative, ISVs gain access to new customers and revenue opportunities through IBM's extensive marketing, sales and solutions resources. At the same time, ISVs commit to lead with IBM's middleware, server platforms and services.

The IBM Application Framework for e-business is a technology roadmap -- based on industry standards -- that helps developers integrate Internet technologies with traditional information technology. IBM RS/6000 UNIX servers with the award-winning AIX(R) operating system and MQSeries messaging middleware are among the strategic products within the IBM Application Framework for e-business, and S1 will continue to incorporate those into its Corporate Suite offering.
