HERNDON, Va. & SOMERS, N.Y - 27 Jun 2000: -- EYECAST Corporation, the leading provider of real-time visual access over the Internet, has chosen the IBM S/390 G6 server as the main server for the company's Internet-based operations, the companies announced today. After evaluating other platform options, EYECAST chose the IBM mainframe for its unmatched reliability, scalability and security.

EYECAST provides its customers like Eckerd Corporation, one of the largest drug store chains in the U.S., with secure access to real-time and archived video of their various locations from anywhere, at anytime using a standard Internet connection. This means that authorized Eckerd management, including merchandisers and store operations staff can use any Internet browser to gain visual access to any of their branches on demand. This service provides Eckerd with valuable information about their customers' buying patterns, merchandising effectiveness, store security and customer satisfaction. Managers can move the camera for multiple views and can make real-time business decisions.

"Our business model relies on having a highly secure, reliable and scalable platform,"said Shaun Amini, CEO, EYECAST. "After careful evaluation of other platform options, we chose the IBM S/390 as the system that is both robust and agile enough to best meet our needs."

EYECAST has created the largest video warehouse on the Internet using IBM technology to store, retrieve and archive the digital video. This high performance, speedy IBM solution, combined with EYECAST's proprietary technology, enables customers to view millions of hours of archived video filmed on demand. Unlike the traditional means of storing video records, digital images stored online cannot be lost to fire or misplaced. The use of EYECAST applications include marketing, merchandising, remote maintenance, security, loss prevention, and visual collaboration.

"More and more Internet and dotcom companies like EYECAST are opting to build their e-business solutions based on the best technology available," said Rich Lechner, VP e-business, Enterprise Server Group, IBM. "When you have a cutting-edge application like EYECAST has and need to guarantee security, availability and scalability from day one, it makes sense to choose a platform like the S/390, which delivers quickly to maintain your competitive advantage -- and grows with you to sustain the success."

Cornerstone Systems, Inc., an IBM Business Partner, participated in the deal, which also includes the IBM S/390 Application Development Solution (ADS). EYECAST will use the ADS for testing and development of applications.
