IBM and BBC Technology Team to Deliver Rich-Media Solutions


NAB, Las Vegas - 24 Apr 2001: -- IBM and the BBC Technology Ltd., announced today an agreement to deliver rich media solutions and services to customers in Europe and the Americas. Rich-media, highlighted by the arrival of streaming media technologies, the combined power of audio, video, and interactivity to deliver possible new revenue streams.

The agreement blends the BBC's media technology and production expertise with IBM's solution, software and services expertise. This will provide a dynamic set of skills and capabilities to assist customers as they transform their businesses IT infrastructures to digital content production and management.

IBM and BBC Technology Ltd. plan to market their combined digital media solutions and skills through their respective sales channels. This includes providing commercial consulting and integration services to customers and leverages both companies' respective products and solutions, and their extensive web/ content hosting and outsourcing services.

Initially, the BBC Technology/IBM partnership will focus on the key emerging market segments of digital media production, content management and distribution, initially across television and radio:

For television broadcast, IBM's Media Production Suite (incorporating IBM and third-party software and hardware, consulting and integration services) will be linked with BBC Technology's consulting and integration services along with their technical and video engineering expertise. This offering will enable broadcasters to transform their business, providing a new digital media workflow and data management infrastructure that can support their current and future content production and distribution requirements.

For radio broadcast, IBM's Radioman solution will be marketed with on-going operational services and support offered from BBC Technology. This will enable BBC Technology to leveraging the skills and investment they have made in the Radioman solution at a local, national and international level. IBM Global Services will continue to provide integration services to support the implementation of Radioman into customer's environments prior to handing the fully implemented solution over to production operations.
