Leading Analyst Firm Names IBM Top New License Database Management System Software Vendor In Europe For 2000


SOMERS, NY - 06 Nov 2001: According to a report from independent analyst firm Gartner Dataquest*, IBM surpassed the competition in database management system software new license sales in Europe by more than 11 points of share for 2000.

According to the report, IBM took first place in the relational database market in new license sales for 2000. With a 17 percent increase in DB2 sales in 2000, IBM captured 38.2 percent of the market compared to its nearest competitor at 34.1 percent share.

In the database management system market Gartner Dataquest market analysis revealed the following market share results based on new license sales : IBM - 37.9%, ORACLE - 26.3%, Microsoft - 15.4%, Informix - 3.2%, Sybase 3%, Other 14.3%.

IBM recently announced its 18th consecutive quarter of growth. In third quarter 2001, DB2 grew 56 percent on distributed platforms, five times faster than the industry growth rate.
