Beijing, China - November 14, 2006... Speaking today at an IBM employee meeting at the Beijing Exhibition Center Theater in Beijing, China, IBM Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Samuel J. Palmisano announced ten new initiatives that the company will pursue with an initial $100 million investment over the next two years. The ideas being funded were generated from InnovationJam, the largest on-line brainstorming session ever held. Conducted by IBM earlier this year, this unprecedented experiment in collaborative innovation attracted more than 150,000 people from 104 countries, to explore exciting new technologies in the pipeline at IBM's massive Research organization.

IBM CEO SETS SIGHTS ON THE 3D INTERNET: IBM Chairman and CEO Sam Palmisano visits with IBM employees -- including serious researchers -- in a virtual world replica of China's Forbidden City. Palmisano's online avatar was there to announce a new business unit to apply virtual world technologies to real life. More than 320 IBM researchers, developers and consultants are already working with dozens of customers in virtual worlds to see how these future 3D Internet environments can change business and society.
