On February 25 in New York City, IBM was recognized by CECP with its Excellence Award for corporate philanthropy. IBM took top honors in the "Chairman's Award" category of companies with revenues of at least $20 billion for its Smarter Cities Challenge competitive grants program, which provides pro bono consulting services to municipalities worldwide. With the award, IBM became CECP’s first ever two-time Excellence Award recipient, having been previously recognized in 2002. Accepting for IBM was Ginni Rometty, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of IBM. Mrs. Rometty said that the award reinforces IBM's conviction that "this work is not simply an alignment of business and citizenship strategies, but a fusion of the two.” Presenting the award was Douglas R. Conant, Chairman, CECP; Founder and CEO, ConantLeadership; and former CEO & President, Campbell Soup Company. The Excellence Awards provide CECP and its members with case studies of impactful corporate engagement in society. With nearly 178,000 students and 4,500 acres of land, the School District of Palm Beach County is the 11th largest school district in the United States. This is a picture of Suncoast High School in Palm Beach County--a math, science and engineering magnet school, rated by Newsweek as one of the top ten public high schools in the country. The School District of Palm Beach County is using IBM Smarter Building technology to increase profits generated from their non-school hour building and room rental program. Since rolling out the IBM solution, the program has increased leasing revenue and is expected to generate $4.5 million this year, providing a much needed source of funding for the district.
