Mr. Canepa is responsible for the P&L of a world-wide matrix organization of 5,000+ delivering value to clients in the On-line, Social, Games, Advertising, Entertainment, Broadcast, Cable, Publishing, Satellite, Sports, and Music segments. Under his direction, the division has grown into the largest provider of solutions, services and technology to the M&E Industry and a consistent top performing IBM Industry group. He is a seasoned business executive with over 25 years of proven experience creating, building, growing and leading multi-billion dollar profitable businesses.
Mr. Canepa oversees sales, strategy, marketing, business development, solutions, product offerings and partner relationships. He is recognized for his insights into the transformation of the Industry and has received two EMMY awards for innovation. He was named by Digital Media Magazine as one of the most influential executives in the world and has extensive executive relationships and a deep understanding of the key business imperatives facing firms in the Media and Entertainment, Electronics, Retail, Communications and On-line marketplace.
A member of IBM’s Global Leadership Team since 1995, Mr. Canepa has held a number of key leadership positions – including founder and a key leader for IBM’s rapidly growing multi-billion dollar cross-industry Digital Media initiative. He has global operations expertise and has grown profit while evolving IBM’s product and solution mix.
Board and Advisory:
Mr. Canepa has served on the Board of Directors for MusiCares, the charitable arm of the Grammy Foundation, the Bogart Pediatric Cancer Research Fund, JA of Southern CA and is an advisor to CES, Digital Hollywood, IBC, UCLA’s M&E program and USC’s Annenberg School of Communications – along with many Industry Boards. He is a past Board Member of Digital Domain (culminating with the successful sale of the business).
As a result of his groundbreaking work, Mr. Canepa is a regular keynote speaker at leading conferences, including NAPTE, NAB, IBC, CES, E3, Future of Broadcast, Broadcast Asia, Digital Hollywood, Imagina, Frames, iStudio and Content World. He has appeared on numerous radio and television programs and is often sought out by the press and analysts to comment on the opportunities ahead as the world transitions to an all-digital environment.
Mr. Canepa graduated from UCLA, earning two Bachelor of Arts degrees, in Economics and Political Science, both with Phi Eta Sigma honors. Mr. Canepa received an MBA in Corporate Finance from UCLA’s Anderson School with both Beta Gamma Sigma and also top field study honors. He has also completed The Wharton School’s financial management program and Harvard University’s executive curriculum on strategy formation.
