Jeff Smith

Jeff S. Smith is the Vice President of Open Source and Linux Middleware for IBM Software Group. He is responsible for driving strategies, plans, and execution of the open source and Linux segments of IBM's middleware business across the WebSphere, DB2, Tivoli, Lotus, and Rational brands. His team works across IBM's software, hardware, and services groups to ensure cohesiveness, synergy, and effectiveness of the strategy and deliverables in this space. His team also drives the leadership role that IBM Software Group plays in IBM's overall open source and Linux strategy, working across the group to ensure that specific capabilities are available and integrated with the rest of the initiatives from IBM. Jeff and his team also play a key role in communicating these strategies and plans across IBM and with customers and the marketplace.
Previously, Smith was Vice President On Demand Automation for Tivoli Software, leading the automation component of IBM's On Demand Operating Environment. Before that he was Vice President of Configuration and Operations Products for Tivoli, focused on market management and development for solutions in the areas of configuration management, license management, and job scheduling. Prior to joining Tivoli Software, Smith was Vice President of e-business operating systems solutions where he led the transformation of key IBM customer IT strategies to cross-platform, open standard e-business environments. This included Java and web application development, integration of these technologies into Linux and IBM operating systems, and customer transformation services.
Mr. Smith is located in Austin, Texas, where he joined IBM in 1984 after receiving a bachelor of engineering in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering from Vanderbilt University.
