Full biography

T. Vincent Learson was IBM's chairman and chief executive officer from June 1971 through January 1973.

A Boston native, Mr. Learson majored in mathematics at Harvard University. He graduated in 1935 and joined IBM the same year. Rising through the sales and marketing ranks, he became vice president in 1954, senior vice president in 1964 and president in 1966. He also was elected to the board of directors in 1966.

Following his retirement, he remained a director through 1975, and from 1977 through 1983.

Mr. Learson died November 4, 1996 at age 84.
