Paris - 29 avr. 2009: The French Tennis Federation (FFT) and IBM have been collaborating for now 24 years in order to reveal Roland-Garros as one of the most outstanding sport events in the world. As the Roland-Garros Information Technology partner, IBM helps the tournament to grow momentum thanks to its expertise in consultancy and in leading edge technology.
In this partnership, IBM has the responsibility of collecting, processing and dispatching information in an efficient and innovative way. Statistics, scores, ball speed, TV graphics… To do so, IBM develops especially for the tournament a complete IT infrastructure combining material and services. This dynamic infrastructure is made to support a 100 times heavier traffic during the two weeks of the tournament than in the rest of the year. The availability of the IT systems is guaranteed and allows fans, journalists, tournament organizers and players to access the latest news whenever they want.
In 2009, the IT infrastructure is reworked to meet the needs of the website which has to face traffic peaks. This year, the infrastructure has been reduced to 6 Power6 servers. This reduction has reduced energy consumption by 20% and cooling load by 31%. The technology Power6 put in place during the French Open makes Roland-Garros an event where performance and ecology are both in favour.
IBM solutions used during the event offer worldwide people an access to follow the matches as if they were on the court. The official website is the witness of the successful partnership between the FFT and IBM: in 2008, more than 6.3 millions unique web users visited the Official Web site during the tournament and viewed more than 260 millions pages. This year again, IBM makes available to the tournament its range of innovations to help Roland-Garros best serve all its constituents. In 2009, a new service is available for the fans: the Visual Match. It enables to understand better the crucial moments of a match. All single matches of the tournament are fully reproduced and presented as a graphic that highlights the technique used to win the points.
At last, for the fourth year in a row, IBM helps players who always look for improving their performance by delivering to them the IBM Match Analysis DVD, in cooperation with FFT. Based on statistics and data generated for each match by IBM sensors, IBM Match Analysis gathers on one single support video, scores and statistics. Players and coaches benefit from an essential tool to analyze and optimize performance.
