IBM Australia and the Melbourne Institute will launch the 2008 ‘Innovation Index of Australian Industry’ in late July 2008.

Now in its second year, the Index has become a nationally recognised measure of innovation activity across the economy, tracking a range of indicators including R&D, IP applications, organisational, managerial and marketing change, and also productivity.

Measuring innovation intensity across 13 industries since 1990, the index provides policy makers, business leaders, investors and analysts with a unique insight into a key driver of growth and competitiveness in the Australian economy.

In 2008, the Index also looks at the relationship between innovation and company size, and examines over time the barriers and opportunities faced by differently sized businesses seeking to innovate.
