TOURCast is a revolutionary service. As a result, adoption and usage were difficult to predict and further complicated by the inherent traffic fluctuations driven by tournament scheduling. These factors demanded an infrastructure that could seamlessly and cost-effectively deliver TOURCast under any usage scenario.
However, IBM Managed Hosting - Linux virtual services allows customers to purchase processing power on demand by the "service unit" (service units are based on a customer's anticipated demand and equate to the processing power utilized.) PGA TOUR was thus able to invest in a minimum level of capacity and then, as projected demand became reality, easily purchase more. Their system is a common, user-friendly Linux server, but one that has tremendous capacity and is fully managed by IBM. There is no need to over-deploy capacity and PGA TOUR avoids wasting money on unused capacity. |
