Every term in a computer program has a specific meaning. Natural language, however, is full of symbols, wordplay, jokes, and hidden meaning – all of which computers have trouble understanding. Watson aims to change that and, in doing so, change the way we interact with machines. The quiz show Jeopardy! is the perfect stage to showcase the progress that IBM has made with this technology.
