The goal

Media and entertainment providers are faced with the challenge of building IT infrastructures that respond to the realities of a much more complex marketplace. The Media Hub Solution Framework offers flexible software architecture as the foundation to enable business transformation by linking business and content systems together for effective media management.

The advantage

The Media Hub Solution Framework is a flexible solution framework that helps to solve critical issues in systems integration, process integration and connectivity, and allows for processes to be analyzed, understood, streamlined, improved and changed dynamically to meet your business needs. Benefit from our ability to serve as a single point of contact for an end-to-end solution, including hardware, applications and support from leading broadcasting IBM Business Partners. Examples of our leadership include:
  • IBM has led the development of the digital media lifecycle and through its high-performance servers and industry-leading storage technologies that offer innovative digital media solutions.
  • IBM is the choice technology partner for an industry transforming from analog workflows and technologies to IT-based technologies.

The benefits
Increased business flexibility and responsiveness
The media and entertainment business environment is changing dramatically. To remain competitive, companies must connect fragmented and disconnected functions and processes to:
  • Respond rapidly to changing business conditions with improved insight into production.
  • Share data, information, content and knowledge more readily across lines of business and partners.
  • Support a security-enhanced business environment and identity management.
  • Reduce the risk of deploying new products and services.

Our framework begins with a content diagnostic step to evaluate your content and business processes in order to create a content audit or “map” of how you run your business. With improved knowledge about the content value chain and a more flexible, collaborative infrastructure, media and entertainment companies can begin to realize significant business benefits.
  • Speed time to market for new products and services through digital file sharing and improved collaborative workflow.
  • Improve agility in reacting to production needs by moving from an analog to a digital asset management system.
  • Help reduce cost structure by using digital technology to shorten the content creation/distribution cycle and reduce content duplication.
  • Optimize asset use and reuse by implementing a digital workflow for content collection and management to reduce editing and reviewing time as well as increase programming output.

The approach
Previously seen on the NFL
Working together with the National Football League and NFL Films, IBM business consultants provided the expertise to understand current content workflows and designed a digital technology infrastructure to effectively leverage and manage their extensive collection of content—over 100 types, including coaches’ game footage, broadcast programming and vast collections of video, audio, images, text and statistics.

Now that IBM is helping the NFL go digital, they are quadrupling efficiency on key TV shows. Editing is now 10 times faster, and tape reviewing has been cut from up to three hours to only 40 minutes. In addition, the new digital technology solution can enable the NFL to utilize its content for a variety of future league and new media opportunities.
