SintecMedia, a leading provider of broadcast management systems, today revealed the results of a breakthrough performance test for OnAir. The test was carried out in conjunction with IBM on System p™
servers running POWER5+ and POWER6 processors.
The results far surpassed other benchmark test results to date, demonstrating scalability of up to 1,000 concurrent users running nearly 33,000 transactions per hour. Response time was stable — below two seconds per (most difficult) transaction, and it remained flat regardless of the number of users, from 1 to 1,000.
As the television industry continues to consolidate and transform to digital, demand is increasing for single management environments that can help increase efficiency and maximize revenues.
Amotz Yarden, CEO of SintecMedia said, “OnAir’s three-tier scalable architecture lays the groundwork for these strong performance results. With the outstanding performance of IBM’s POWER6 processors, 1,000 concurrent business users of OnAir actually represent a much larger organization with up to 1,700 named users, which are not using the system at the same time. There is no other player in the industry that has the capability to cater to such large number of users in this record-time performance”.
"These leading benchmark results underscore the robustness and scalability of both POWER5+ and POWER6 processors running on our System p servers," said Scott Handy, vice president of marketing and strategy, IBM Power Systems. "IBM's leading-edge technology drives performance across many industries, including broadcast, and offers customers the best UNIX solutions in the industry."
The performance test was performed at IBM’s PSSC Customer Center of Montpellier, France. A production-like environment was set up, running a large broadcaster’s typical transaction mix. Two separate configurations were tested – System p 570 (with 16 processors x 4.7 GHz) and on System p 595 (20 x 2.3 GHz). Two enterprise-class storage were also tested: IBM System Storage DS4800 and N5200. In total, the test environment consisted of 1,000 concurrent users running 32,638 transactions per hour.
