IBM Healthcare and Life Sciences is pleased to host the second Life Sciences Modeling and Simulation Summit on November 24 — 25, 2008. Leaders from the biopharmaceutical industry, academic and government research, and in silico R&D software companies will present, discuss and debate key trends, challenges and technologies associated with the increasingly important role of modeling and simulation in pharmaceutical R&D.
Although in silico modeling and simulation and other predictive technologies have been applied to life sciences in academic and industrial research for decades, the complexity of life sciences challenges is hindering full acceptance of the results and predictions. Unlike the unquestioned predictive value provided by modeling and simulation in weather modeling and automotive engineering for example, the insufficient quality and accuracy of life sciences simulations have so far prevented their full integration into biopharmaceutical R&D strategies and processes.
At the invitation-only IBM Life Sciences Modeling and Simulation Summit, IBM will bring together thought leaders, IBM Business Partners and our life sciences clients to build a community to foster the adoption of in silico tools and methodologies to help researchers become more innovative, build trust in the predictive value of in silico approaches and assess their business value.
Agenda
The summit will feature presentations, facilitated workshops and discussions on the use of modeling and simulation throughout drug discovery, pre-clinical and clinical development. In addition, we will include a session on lessons learned from other industries in which modeling and simulation are generally accepted and integrated into their R&D processes.

We have reserved a block of rooms at the IBM Palisades Executive Conference Center for the night of November 24. For speakers and participants arriving early, rooms are also available November 23.

Travel and lodging expenses are the responsibility of each attendee. IBM will provide the conference facilities and all meals, beginning with morning coffee at 8:30 a.m. on November 24, and ending with afternoon refreshments on November 25. The conference program will start at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 24, and end at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 25.
