Performance in the line of fire
|
|
In the heat of battle, intelligence can make or break an outcome. And second only to intel is the speed with which it’s shared. The IBM Distributed Information Services Hub (DISH) helps combat forces make better decisions by providing virtual real-time, local access to the right information. From video to sonar, radar, JPEG and radio frequency identification (RFID) data, DISH collects all the information you need to make the right move.

IBM is the ultimate ally
|
Partnership is a critical part of our success in the defense space. IBM is proud to be a member of the following:
- Network Centric Operations Industry Consortium (NCOIC)—as a charter member, IBM has three full-time staff members who help the NCOIC facilitate global realization of the benefit inherent in network-centric operations by developing standards.
- International Data Links Society (IDLS)—IBM is a member and participates in the society’s meetings and conferences by providing demonstrations, speakers and white papers to further discussion and collaboration in the field of tactical data links.
- Coalition Warrior Interoperability Demonstrator (CWID)—IBM participates in defense-oriented events by collaborating with other companies to exhibit capabilities that meet specific, predefined business requirements.

Support the mission from all sides
|
IBM DISH is a mobile, fully integrated, appliance-based solution that transparently connects ad hoc information producers and consumers in highly dynamic environments, providing shared situational awareness to all connected parties. DISH can provide your organization with:
- A focal point for the collection, storage and wide-area distribution of data from a range of sensors.
- Sophisticated discovery search and retrieval mechanisms based on combinations of geospatial, time and event information.
- Advanced services that can be applied to the collected data, including analytical tools, 2-D to 3-D image conversion, and a 3-D viewer.
- A complex event-processing engine that enables the rapid adoption of changing military rules and concepts of operations (CONOPS).
- Security profiling to support information enclaves.

A typical scenario
|
Coalition forces are on a peacekeeping mission in an unstable urban environment. The soldiers are tasked with securing an area from insurgent elements so humanitarian aid can be delivered to the populace. They are relying on sensors that include unmanned aerial video (UAV) to develop their initial approach strategy as well as to continually monitor the area once secured.
Today, when a remote command center examines video feed and identifies hostile elements, the mission coordinators often don’t know where the forces are located or how to direct them. IBM DISH, as the middleware backbone of the information network, provides a near real-time, intelligent notification correlation analysis component that is localized to the point of need. DISH is also an information repository, enabling users to go back in time to look again at the situation in question.

Why buy it twice?
|
|
You already made a significant investment in sensory information, with surveillance, RFID, sonar, radar or UAVs. IBM DISH helps you maximize those investments by collecting, managing, storing, analyzing and distributing the information that is relevant to the need at hand, and controlled and straightforward to access. As a result, DISH helps military and public safety forces to respond faster and more effectively. And faster response means a higher likelihood of mission success.
