Identify and find risks
|
The following scenario shows how non-obvious relationships between people and cargo can be used to support integrated risk management in a border crossing. Based upon integrated airline reservation information, border control alerts customs that a customer paid for his airline ticket with cash at the time he made his reservation. Upon entering the country, he is stopped for further inspection and a large sum of undeclared cash is found. Customs then performs additional screening activities and determines that he works for a company that has a history of misrepresenting the contents of their shipments and is therefore considered to be high risk. It is also determined that the company has just imported cargo into the country and that it has already cleared customs.
Customs determines that they should locate and intercept the container because it may contain contraband materials. The location of the container is determined through the use of the IBM Secure Trade Lane tracking services, which can provide its location. Customs works with law enforcement to locate and intercept the container for further inspection.
