IBM has concluded an agreement with the Rotterdam Port Authority to optimize its business processes. One aspect of the Port Authority’s improvement effort involves renovating its information systems. Part of this improvement process is the implementation of ERP software to be delivered by IBM in collaboration with SAP and LogicaCMG. The Port Authority has calculated that the new system will pay for itself within four years.
Increasing competition and the harbor’s pivotal function in international logistics chains as a result of the globalization of the economy, requires both efficiency and more operational control. Many of the current information systems are not designed to support company-wide processes. The more than 170 business applications are becoming increasingly difficult to manage and no longer provide the desired management information. This demands an information architecture based on standardization and one-time registration of the data.
The combination of the specific knowledge of the Port Authority’s business, IBM’s experience in the area of transformation processes in combination with the knowledge of the relevant LogicaCMG ICT systems and a proven package (SAP) makes this collaboration the ideal partner for the Port Authority for this project. The implemented solution will be mySAP BUsiness Suite en offers functionalities on finance, human resource management, maintanance, real estate, procurement and CRM.
The SAP implementation will begin after the summer vacation. Within two years the system will support a large part of the Port Authority’s activities.
