Managing operational risk
|
A leading U.S. financial institution wanted to improve their operational risk posture, but was unsure of where to focus and prioritize their investments. An IBM team of business consultants and IBM Research professionals implemented an analytical approach to make operational risks transparent across processes, technology and people and provide a clearer view of options for countermeasures for risk management and mitigation.
By quantifying the business value of 85 specific risks, the team found that three business resilience related risks accounted for over 90% of the operational risks. The client was then able to narrowly focus their investment plan, and demonstrate to regulators the business value of their operational improvements.
