This year at SIFMA IBM will demonstrate record-breaking low-latency performance with a demonstration of high speed multicast messaging.
In tests the IBM research team has achieved latency as low as 7 microseconds using reliable multicast messaging over Infiniband (compared to about 30 microsecond on infiniband in previously published IBM test results). In other testing we have verified sending over 20 million messages per second using reliable multicast messaging over Infiniband, as compared to 8 million in previously announced IBM tests. Also with IBM’s Stock Exchange Reference Architecture (SXRA) the team has achieved over 1.2 million orders per second and latency as low as 60 microseconds for a round trip from Gateway to matching engine and back to Gateway — this configuration which will be demonstrated on the floor of the SIFMA Technology Exhibit
Also at the show IBM will be addressing emerging computing infrastructures in a joint presentation with Merrill Lynch and will be showing how it can help financial markets companies by delivering low latency, enabling business value and driving high performance — all of which will be shown in 12 demonstrations on IBM’s stand – stand number #2213.
Jeffrey M. Birnbaum, Managing Director, Chief Technology Architect and Global Head of Architecture and Engineering at Merrill Lynch, and Dr. Tom Bradicich, IBM Fellow and VP Systems Technology at IBM, will give a joint presentation on “Emerging Computing Infrastructures — Supply Side and Demand Side Perspectives”. New and emerging virtual IT infrastructures are generally built with standard computing and storage components — hundreds of thousands going to millions — and will connect to billions of user devices, sensors and existing IT infrastructures and other types of platforms. The presentation by Jeffrey M. Birnbaum and Dr. Tom Bradicich will address several emerging computing infrastructures and platforms such as containers, cloud computing, stateless systems, ensembles, and low-power/high-density blades. The opportunities and characteristics of each infrastructure will be discussed as well as the challenges in realizing their full potential in the financial markets.
