The implementation
School districts of all sizes count on IBM
We have helped many school districts with E-rate solutions, including:
  • A large urban district in the Southern U.S. that worked with IBM to design and install a fiber backbone Wide Area Network (WAN) connecting the district’s schools to each other and to the Internet. The result also included converging the district’s voice, video and data over a single network infrastructure, which helped them achieve their objective of providing high bandwidth transmissions and Internet access, while integrating the school's telephone and video distance learning systems. IBM and the district have continued to work together to maintain and expand the district’s network infrastructure for an effective transition to a technology-infused curriculum.
  • A rural district that worked with IBM to build a networking infrastructure that would serve 10,000+ students over a vast, geographically-dispersed area. In a subsequent phase, IBM and the district implemented a wireless bridging solution to provide lower costs and longer reach for numerous portable classroom buildings located throughout the school district's campuses. The overall goal has been to significantly enhance education by enabling students and teachers across the district to interact, learn, access the Internet, stream video and distribute lesson plans at Web speed.
