The goal
Prepare your students for the real world
Ensuring your students are learning real-world lessons is one of the biggest challenges of being a teacher. E-rate solutions from IBM are designed to help you prepare your students for the future by providing the combined technology and know-how your school needs to successfully participate in the E-rate program.

The advantage
Rely on a proven industry leader
IBM has been an E-rate provider since the inception of this federally funded program in 1998. We are a leader in E-rate and educational experience. Our commitment to education has been demonstrated by:
  • Education professionals, nationwide, with over 350 combined years of K-12 experience.
  • The IBM Reinventing Education grant program—the Center for Children and Technology (CCT) at the Education Development Center has found that the Reinventing Education program from IBM has produced successful solutions that are dismantling long-standing barriers to public school reform—barriers like how teachers are trained, how information is used and how learning is measured.

The benefits
Leave it to the experts
IBM brings unique benefits to school districts, including:
  • Internal connections, basic maintenance and Internet access solutions that are tailored to the needs you have defined, and that conform to E-rate specifications and eligibility requirements.
  • Exceptional breadth and depth in terms of products, services and solutions—delivered in compliance with E-rate program rules.
  • A project management approach that helps the district install, integrate and deploy products and services from a multitude of vendors with strict adherence to deadlines.
  • A single partner for overall implementation, reporting and review of project status—IBM acts as your single point-of-contact.
  • A professional approach to project documentation and audit compliance that can help you avoid surprises and project delays.

The approach
Your school district can count on IBM
IBM has helped many school districts through our E-rate solutions, including large urban school districts. In this example, a district wanted to enhance the quality of education it provided to students while improving the ability of staff and administration to provide that education.

The project focused on upgrading the school system's network infrastructure. The objective was to provide high bandwidth transmissions and Internet access, while integrating the school's telephone systems and video distance learning materials onto the same network. The district turned to IBM Global Services Integrated Technology Services (ITS) for expertise and leadership to accomplish these objectives.

With the help of funding from the E-rate program, IBM and the district implemented a converged network, which is designed to transport voice, video and data over a single, cost-efficient infrastructure instead of three separate networks. With this high-capacity environment in place, IBM and the district have continued to work together to implement subsequent upgrades to promote an effective transition to a technology-infused curriculum.

The financial advantage
Increase your purchasing power
E-rate solutions from IBM can help your district realize return on investment.
  • We can help your district conserve time and staff resources by simplifying complex and time-consuming implementation requirements.
  • We have the resource capacity and can provide the strict attention to detail that can help keep your E-rate projects on schedule, which helps reduce or eliminate the possibility of losing project funding in midstream.

IBM understands the issues involved in total cost of ownership as it pertains to network infrastructure. We can offer valuable ongoing assistance to help you keep your network available and performing to your expectations.
