The approach
Business scenario templates
The plant automation solution for automotive: shop-to-enterprise integration provides four templates, each based on actual customer engagements. These templates have been built around the following high-priority business scenarios.
  • Error proofing—WIP and As-Built information is recorded as well as quality data is collected at a workstation where seat belts are being torqued, all of which is sent to a quality tracking system.
  • Inventory management—inventory is updated and tracked using RFID technology as the factory communicates with seat suppliers to make sure correct seats are delivered to the assembly station in proper order.
  • Asset performance management—torque values are drifting toward boundaries and a maintenance engineer is dispatched to fix the torque gun before it becomes a problem.
  • Line sequencing—master sequence for next five days is communicated to manufacturing engineering service and suppliers. A defect in a wiring harness causes certain vehicles to be pulled out of the line and the line to be re-sequenced. Final assembly line sequence is communicated as each vehicle enters the line.

The financial advantage
