More flexibility… quicker, faster, better…
|
|
Utilizing automotive RFID can streamline vehicle production, improve logistics, increase quality control and improve customer service. With the infrastructure and processes in place, active and passive tags attached to parts, bins and finished vehicles enable virtual real-time insight into moving parts. Automotive RFID from IBM helps you gain insight into where everything is so you can speed assembly processes, locate cars or components in a fraction of the time and manage recalls more effectively.

Identification tags for measurable improvements
|
Automotive RFID from IBM can help enable measurable margin improvement, cost savings and tighter controls throughout the production process, including quality control and supply chain management. Unique identifying tags allow you to track and trace tagged inventory and components. For example:
- Achieve more efficient assembly because smart robots locate parts from tagged bins before you have to stop line operations to find misplaced parts.
- Respond to changing requirements, such as paint color and decals without wading through paperwork.
- Control quality by scanning vehicles prior to their departure to help ensure all processes have been taken place prior to transport.
- Expedite yard management with instant awareness of the exact location of the tagged vehicle.
- Track reusable containers and capture data on condition and contents so you can return them for refills and detect the quality of materials within them.
Automotive RFID can also help you take proactive control of forecasting, production scheduling and customer relations.
- Gain more accurate information on inventory and finished goods throughout the production process with traceable, unique identifiers.
- Improve order turnaround times by identifying production discrepancies early in the process.
- Increase inventory flow-through management with the ability to trace tagged materials, finished products and fixed assets with end-to-end asset awareness.
- Improve supplier and vendor relations by monitoring product quality and reducing costs associated with inaccurate shipments.
- Compete in the market for specialty orders by providing your most selective customers with improved turnaround times.

Philips Semiconductor in Asia has undertaken a joint RFID project between its Kahhsiung site and its Regional Distribution Center in Hong Kong. The initiative provides near real-time inventory visibility into the Philips Semiconductor business units on all packaged quantities and boxes, all customer direct ships in Asia from the Kahhsiung location, all cartons from the Hong Kong distribution center to each destination and all outbound flows in Hong Kong. IBM provided an end-to-end solution that encompasses services to support Philips Semiconductor's STAR proof-of-concept approach, plus an IBM proprietary radio frequency identification framework and documentation.
