Biography for Jane Xu*
Dr. Jane Xu is the Distinguished Engineer of IBM Watson Research, focusing on the research of IT and Wireless Convergence. Her current role is developing M2M architecture and technologies, and seeking the wireless applications for IBM Next Generation Computing Systems. She is a member of the IBM Academy of Technology, an organization with top technical experts in IBM, where she served as a council member 2006-2009.
In 2008, Dr. Xu was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the Women In Technology International, becoming the 4th Chinese woman with this honor among the 96 world wide famous female scientists at that time.
Dr. Xu joined IBM Storage Systems Division in 1990, working on storage systems architecture. After joining the IBM Software Group in 1995, she had delivered DB2www, Net.Data and DB2 XML Extender products as the technical leader. She worked in IBM Almaden Research Center in 2001. During 2002-2005, she worked on the advanced technologies of storage software. In 2005, Dr. Xu took an international assignment from US to join the IBM Systems and Technology Lab in Shanghai, China. She had been there for 4 years as the CTO of the lab.
Dr. Xu received her Ph.D. degree in computer science from the University of Southern California in 1990. She has received three IBM Outstanding Technical Achievement Awards and 6 IBM patent award plateaus. She has 15 issued US patents and another 11 pending filed.
