Additional information
Distinguish Engineer / IBM Academy Member / Master Inventor / Senior Consulting IT Architect / Certified Project Manager / Architect of Solution Infrastructure for IBM software products.
Maria joined IBM in 1989 as a professional hired for her expertise in ORACLE databases and UNIX, but today her breadth of knowledge extends from Operating Systems/device drivers to e-business. Early in her IBM early career, Maria developed and designed operating systems (UNIX, DOS, OS/2, Microkernel), device drivers, and Boot-Mangers.
Since then, however, Maria has reinvented herself into a solutions architect for e-business. She has provided technical leadership and designed IT solutions for the largest banks in the world - including Bank One, Bank of America and HSBC - and has proven her leadership in the Java Web server arena by designing high-availability WebSphere servers. Her technical contributions in Java design and e-business solutions have allowed millions of people to do "home banking". She is currently responsible for IBM’s Software Group Industry Standards and Financial Sector Architecture, and is the Industry Standards Architecture Board (ISAB) chair.
Maria has 22 patents, 60 pending patents, and has achieved IBM’s coveted 19th level Invention Plateau. Her patents cover a wide spectrum of technology including Tele-communications, web servers, Transcoder technology, Java implementation and enhancements, and data manipulation.
Maria is active in her community, and has a long list of proteges that she mentors. She is also an active member of the IBM Multicultural Community, La Red Familiar, LatinNet and other groups. She shares her work experience by presenting to IBM professionals on how to write patents and succeed in a technical career. Concerned about the next generation as well, she presents to middle school students to encourage them to follow careers in science and engineering.
