As data processing tools, hardware and programs moved out of the large corporate "glass house" data centers maintained by DP specialists into the broader arena of small and medium businesses and organizations -- as well as individuals equipped with personal computers -- IBM sought to educate these newer users, potential customers and the public in general about the behind-the-scenes benefits and applications of information technology.
