Blue chip service (1984)

IBM's capabilities and performance in delivering service was one of the cornerstones of the company's reputation and success throughout much of its history. Originally, IBM service related to the maintenance of IBM products installed in customer premises, as seen in this 1984 advertisement that was published in such publications as The Wall Street Journal, MIS Week, Computerworld and Datamation. Later, IBM "service" was broadened to include a very wide range of "services" that drove IBM's growth in the 1990s (see "History of IBM Global Services" on our Documents Desk for details.)
