The IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights, N.Y., was dedicated in April 1961. Extensions to either end in 1979 and 1984 increased the length of the front of the building from 1,091 to 1,769 feet and its floor space from 459,000 to 757,000 square feet. IBM scientists located at this facility have conducted research in such fields as computer science, input/output technologies, manufacturing, mathematical sciences, physical sciences and semiconductor science and technology.
