In May 1932 IBM president Thomas Watson, Sr., formally established an Education Department to manage the company's many educational activities for employees and customers. An IBM "schoolhouse" was built in Endicott, N.Y., a year later to provide training and education for employees. Seen here in 1948, the IBM Schoolhouse offered instruction to a wide variety of employees, including salesmen, engineers, tool-making apprentices, supervisors, and systems service women. (VV2034)
