Micro-Processing System installation

IBM's Micro-Processing units (on desk in background) brought together in 1963 two major information-handling techniques: the space-saving method of storing documents in miniature on film and the ability of data processing equipment to maintain and search files of documents quickly.

On the left, an operator uses an IBM sorter to retrieve documents which have been recorded on film and mounted in data processing (punched) cards. The filmed documents can be duplicated quickly with the IBM Micro-Copier I (center). They can be read easily on the IBM Micro-Viewer (right) which enlarges the images as much as 15 times.
