Debuting in 1996, the IBM Magstar MP 3570 Tape Subsystem marked the introduction of a track-following, timing-based servo and several innovations that leveraged the technology of IBM disk storage. It could deliver sustained data transfer performance of up to 15MB a second per drive (with maximum compression).
