Introduced in 1983, the IBM 3430 Magnetic Tape Subsystem was used with some of the 43xx and 303x series processors, as well as the midrange System/38. Its compact size provided users with increased space savings and its horizontal tape transport deck permitted easy tape reel mountings and handling.
