| TThe IBM System/370 of the early
1970s could read or write on magnetic tape at rates
as fast as 1,250,000 characters a second. The contents
of a 1,500-page dictionary could be read from the
tape reel in about 13 seconds. The rate resulted
from high reel speed and high density on the tape. |
