Developed for the Navy by Watson Laboratory at Columbia University, NORC
is the newest giant brainchild in IBM's growing family of supercalculators.
Fed exclusively on a diet of magnetic tape from ultra high-speed units, NORC
is the fastest, most powerful computer in existence. With the program tape
in place and each of the eight units set to read in data at the rate of 70,000
decimal digits a second, NORC is ready for a test -- the culmination of an
eight-year program of research and development that was IBM from drawing board
to finished product.
