Equinoctial Sundial

Universal equinoctial dials were made throughout Europe from the 17th to the mid-19th centuries. Sundials of this type have their pointers aimed directly at the North Star, which lies on the axis of rotation of Earth. When a rod is aimed in this direction, the sun rotates around it in a regular movement during the day, and whatever date or latitude, the shadow of the rod will point in the same direction at any given time of the day.
