Burroughs Hand Operated Adding-Subtracting Machine
 
William Seward Burroughs (1857-1898) was a successful American inventor and businessman who patented the first commercially successful adding machine. Burroughs' machines incorporated a full keyboard and, for the first time, a printing device to record numbers and totals.
