Marchant Calculator

Rodney and Alfred Marchant began their calculator business in an Oakland, Calif., blacksmith shop, first manufacturing parts and later, the finished product. They brought out their first machine, called the "Standard," as a lever-set, hand-operated calculator in 1910. It was cranked like a coffee grinder; performed addition, subtraction, multiplication and division; and was promoted as America's first calculator.
