The IBM 753 was announced October 1, 1954. Used with both the IBM 701 and IBM 704 Data
Processing Systems, the 753 provided power and control circuitry for
IBM 727 magnetic tape units attached to the 701.
Up to ten 727 units could be connected to the 753. The monthly rental charge for a 753
was $2,500.
