Hard file data cleansing:
IBM Global Financing can provide an outstanding added value for end-of-lease assets with our Disk Overwrite Services by performing a 3x Disk Overwrite as an efficient and cost-effective way to reliably overwrite your disk drives before they enter the market. To minimize the business and security risk of your data getting into the wrong hands, you'll need to develop expertise, choose or build an application, and create a system to manage your assets through the process. This is expensive, time-consuming, and can become an ongoing diversion from your core mission or you can let us do it for you as a simple extension of IBM's lease returns operation.
Our 3x Disk Overwrite service provides hard drive sanitization and cleansing services to ensure the appropriate overwrite of your data. We have dedicated facilities for overwriting large quantities of disk drives. Inventories and processes are managed to ensure that every machine receives its proper data cleansing.
Using specially devised numerical sequences, the 3x Disk Overwrite processes are designed to meet United States Department of Defense (DoD) 5220.22.M 3 pass standards and to make your data unrecoverable through any means currently available publicly. If any sector on a given drive fails and cannot be overwritten or verified as overwritten, that drive is physically destroyed. If additional overwriting beyond the DoD requirement is required, we can provide an estimate for that service.
A report is provided verifying that the overwrite process has been performed for your hard drives.
Packing and Transportation:
IBM Global Financing can provide packing and transportation of your assets to the appropriate IBM facility using any of several large shipping companies in the U.S. with which IBM has a contractual relationship. This service would include scheduling pickup of equipment from your location and delivery to the IBM designated return location.
We have worked with numerous clients returning hundreds of thousands of PCs over the past few years and have developed some guidelines to help with the successful disposition of client assets. Many of the PCs that we receive are in single boxes; this may not be the most efficient way for your organization to ship larger numbers of PCs. Palletizing shipments of PCs can minimize costs and if done properly, will not increase the risk of damage.
Service includes:
- Accommodating multiple client pickup location requirements, but cost may be reduced by consolidating assets into single locations for pickup.
- No minimum quantities or weight requirements. However, costs associated with transportation are based on quantity of assets, weight of assets and distance required for transportation. Full truckloads are consequently less expensive.
- With three to five days notice, specific pickup dates can generally be accommodated. Specific "must call" requests for a specified time of day may be made by the client, however "must call" requests will incur additional charges.
