Global Asset Recovery Services (GARS) include:
- Re-manufacturing and refurbishing returned equipment for subsequent resell
- Disassembling products and reselling used parts back into the marketplace
- Scrapping used IT equipment in a way that meets environmental regulations and addresses data privacy concerns
The two primary offerings of GARS are IBM Certified Pre-owned Equipment and Asset Recovery Solutions. Both of these offerings are sold through various sales channels including face to face sales, business partner sales, and
e-commerce tools such as ibm.com and our Private Trading Exchange (PTX).
Used assets are resold to business partners and end user customers after they have been refurbished and tested to IBM standards qualifying for the "IBM Certified Pre-owned Equipment" specification. Used assets are also resold in "as is" condition to the broker market.
IBM/GARS processes an estimated 40,000 machines or over 815,000 kilograms per week across the world. IBM reused or resold almost 87% of the assets returned to its Remanufacturing Centers. |
