Global Asset Recovery Services (GARS) is a key differentiator for IBM Global Financing in the marketplace. IBM Global Financing has been disposing of its end of lease assets through refurbishment / resale and recycling for over 20 years. The IBM Global Asset Recovery Services (GARS) organization within IBM Global Financing handles these returns and is one of the world's largest, most efficient reverse logistics organizations with processes that are scalable on demand. GARS is built upon a robust eBusiness backbone enabling full remanufacturing capabilities and a broad network of distribution channels to provide optimal RV and asset value recovery. This is supported by a full range of web-based services for the acquisition, management, and disposition of IT related equipment, components and parts.
GARS asset recovery services include:
- Re-manufacturing and refurbishing returned equipment for subsequent resell
- Disassembling products and reselling used parts back into the marketplace
- Scrapping used IT equipment in a way that meets environmental regulations and addresses data privacy concerns
The two primary offerings of GARS are IBM Certified Used Equipment and Asset Recovery Solutions. Both of these offerings are sold through various sales channels including face to face sales, business partner sales, and e-commerce tools such as ibm.com and our Private Trading Exchange (PTX). Used assets are resold to business partners and end user customers after they have been refurbished and tested to IBM standards qualifying for the "IBM Certified Used EquipmentTM" specification. Used assets are also resold in "as is" condition to the broker market.
In 2008, IBM Global Asset Recovery Services was recognized by the IT analyst firm IDC as one of the first recipients of its Green Recycling and Asset Disposal for the Enterprise (G.R.A.D.E.) certification.
IBM Global Asset Recovery Services recently received ISO 14001 certification from Bureau Veritas Certification, North America covering the following scope: Global operational and logistics processes related to the return, remanufacturing, demanufacturing, remarketing and disposal of used equipment.
In 1999, GARS de-manufacturing operations processed the approximate weight of 500 rail cars filled with coal stretching 5.5 miles. By year end 2008, the cumulative weight processed by GARS remanufacturing and de-manufacturing operations would fill 4480 rail cars stretching 49 miles.
In the past three years, GARS major de-manufacturing locations have recycled more than 55,800 metric tons of product and product waste.
Over 37,800 metric tons recycled have been ferrous and non ferrous metals, more metal than the equivalent metal used in 3.7 Eiffel towers. |
