And the Environmental Protection Agency figures that within the next five years 250 million PCs will become obsolete, ripe for replacement.

the total cost of ownership (TCO) framework? Analyst Frances O'Brien
explains in her report that Gartner has expanded its base TCO model to
include asset disposal as a line item: "Implementing a systematic approach
for surplus and obsolete IT equipment, especially PCs, is one of those
problems that ..."eventually" must be tackled by all size companies." She adds that
"protecting the enterprise from risk versus capturing economic
opportunity, should be the main driver for formalizing a process for
disposal of equipment."
