U.S. President Obama calls on IBM in a time of crisis

Sam Palmisano and President Barack Obama shaking hands Earlier this year, at the dawn of a new presidency, IBM CEO Sam Palmisano, and a dozen other CEOs, met with U.S. President Barack Obama at the White House to support, and discuss, the economic stimulus package for the United States.

In his remarks at the White House press conference following the meeting, Sam noted that, "we [must] invest in our economy to be truly competitive, [and] our economy must engage the global economy in order to be successful. Smarter infrastructure is by far our best path to creating these new, globally competitive jobs, and to stimulating growth."

One week later, in an interview with CNBC's Maria Bartiromo, Sam expanded on the importance of innovation in a rough economy, stating that now is the time to take advantage of the situation at hand to put things in place for a stronger world economy. Putting it simply, he added: "It's a great opportunity, [let's] not blow it."
