IBM Design Studio

IBM has just the thing for you in Maelstrom--an intensive software design internship experience that hires the dangerously curious, teaches through participatory learning, prototyping, and reflection, and drives to early outcomes for bleeding edge IBM products and services.

Over the course of the 8–10 week long experience in our Austin Studio, Maelstromers are deployed in small intern cohorts guided by their product team mentors to attack complex problems for real stakeholders. Think of it as the love child of Education and Practice.

Don’t just meet executives, work directly with them! “Maelstrom interns bring talent, passion, and imagination to design that authentically expresses the character of IBM. They’re what we need in the next generation of IBMers.”

Entry-Level Programs

Consulting by Degrees
2 year world class leadership and development program

Student employment assignments provide you the opportunity to become familiar with IBM's organization, work style, culture and global reach. In order to qualify for internship/co-op opportunities, candidates must be enrolled at an accredited university or college pursuing an undergraduate or post-graduate degree. IBM hires student candidates for 4, 8, 12 and 16 month work terms, which start in January, May, or September. Contact your career centre to confirm your eligibility for the IBM internship program.

Co-op and internship programs are an important recruiting channel for IBM because they help us identify high-potential prospective employees. Participating students are often considered for repeat internships or a long-term commitment of regular employment.

What’s the difference

Internships and Co-ops allow students to apply their knowledge and expertise in their particular field, while gaining experience working for a global enterprise. The result is an experiential education that deepens students' knowledge and prepares them further for their chosen career.

An Internship is a 12-month or 16-month work-term which is available for students enrolled in an accredited internship program through their university.

A Co-op is a 4-month or 8-month work-term available to students enrolled in an accredited co-op program through their university. During the summer months, enrollment in official internship/co-op programs is not required as long as the student is returning back to full-time studies upon completion of the work term.

Types of assignments

Each year IBM offers hundreds of internship assignments within our various business units and Career Paths. Spend time talking about these assignments with our recruiters, hiring managers, and new hires when we visit your campus.

You can see a full list of all of our opportunities here. You must apply to this site in order to be considered for any role at IBM, even if you interview with us on campus. Check back often, as we do update our job postings frequently.

Eligibility

Students must be enrolled full-time at an accredited college or university leading to an undergraduate or advanced degree and must be in good standing at their school. Students should be hired into positions related to their degree. Eligibility to work in Canada without sponsorship is a requirement for all student roles.
